We have set up a Twitter group called Intranetwatch.
The idea of the group is to share links, ask questions, put out quick ideas among people involved in intranets. All people interested in intranets are welcome - as long as there are no product promotions and no sales pitches.
Members of the group post only intranet-related stuff to this group: no personal and other “what am I doing” updates.
Twitter is great in general for "what I am doing" updates, making connections and social micro-blogging. However, we felt the need to have a complementary Twitter channel dedicated to "intranet stuff".
Instructions for joining:
1. Create your own Twitter account if you don’t already have one. (http://twitter.com/)
2. Find the Intranetwatch page using the search box at the top of your Twitter home page or by typing http://twitter.com/intranetwatch.
3. Send a request to "follow"' the Intranetwatch Twitter group.
4. We will OK your request to follow. We also need to “follow” you. If your updates are protected, you will need to accept our request to follow you.
5. Once the bi-directional "following" is in place, you are part of the group and you will see all the updates to Intranetwatch directly on your own Twitter page or on whatever device(s) you are using.
6. You can also send updates yourself: questions, comments, links, etc. about intranets to the Intranetwatch group.
To do this, you need to go your Twitter page, click on the blue Intranetwatch bird icon under the people you follow. This takes you to the Intranetwatch Twitter page.
Then, you need to send a direct message to Intranetwatch under the actions>message Intranetwatch in the righthand pale green column.
7. Caution: Only direct messages to Intranetwatch will show up on the Twitter pages of all the members of the group. If you reply to a message, be sure to do it directly to the group again.
Remember to keep the tweets to this group strictly related to intranet issues. Anything else you want to twit should not be directed to IntranetWatch, but done from your own Twitter home page.
