Nice Jane. Yes, we have experiences with microblogging, but I'm sure you already know.

Social media will work where it is seen as a practicable solution to an identified issue. We have a number of communities on our intranet and features such as yammer, blogging etc are available as tools. Some communities face a number of regulatory issues therefore social media is out of the question as they require a very control collaboration model. Other are happy to use collaboration features, however, they gain acceptance only when there is visible leadership, support from the top of their community and built into a knowledge sharing strategy for the community. Many of our employees are also working remotely much of the week and there are still issues with connectivity - another barrier to participation.

Social messaging has great power within the enterprise because it meets a real need - sharing and obtaining information. In other words, it solves the problem Bill French identified: "Email is where knowledge goes to die".

It is also easy for people to understand - since its just like sending an email (except that the information is now searchable, browseable and subscribable).

Meets a business need AND easy to understand - that's why microblogging (social messaging) has a real edge.

Hiking in Provence

  • Myself after a long hike in the Mercantour
Wanderings in Provence, where I am priviledged to live. Some hikes are hard, some easy. They are all worth it!
